The Water Treatment Plant in Altenrhein, Switzerland is already an advanced energy-efficient plant. For NextGen they are hoping to further use the water treatment by-products to improve the circularity of the plant.
They have 3 main solutions to improve water circularity with better use of leftover materials and generating energy:
1- Ammonium recovery from the digester
2- Production of renewable granular activated carbon
3- Production of Phosphorus and Potassium fertilisers.
